1 Child-Keith (Jenny); 1 Grandson-Ethan (2005); 1 Granddaughter-Taylor (2010)

University of Kentucky (1967-74) BA in English & Political Science, MA in Education; Spalding College (now Spalding University) (1977-79) MS in Library Science.

Navy—1963–1967; Teacher’s corps—1972–1974

I started out as a Kindergarten/First grade teacher at Roosevelt Elementary in Louisville’s west end. After 7 years doing that I attended Spalding College (now Spalding University) and in 1979 I received my MS in Library Science. I was a school librarian until 1989 when I became Coordinator of Children’s Services at the Louisville Free Public library. I resigned that position in 1997, and from that time till I turned 62 1/2 I considered my self as “Self-unemployed, living off the fruits of my wife’s labors.” It’s the best gig I’ve ever had. In 2008 I went on Social Security so now I guess I am "retired." And that's a pretty good gig as well.

I married Sherry Beyer in 1974 (Seneca, class of 68). Prior to our marriage I legally changed my last name to Jacobson-Beyer so she is now Sherry Beyer Jacobson-Beyer (grin).

In 1980, we adopted our son, Keith, who was 8 years old. He is now living in Fairhope, AL, where he is a financial planner (stock broker) with Cetera Financial. His wife, Jenny, is a marine biolgist with the Army Corps of engineers. They have two children, Ethan (8) and Taylor (3). We also have a 25 lb. cock-a-poo, Elliot. Prior to Elliot we only had standard poodles. Since Elliot came into our lives I had to change my self-image from "Big Dog" guy to "Small Dog" guy.

From 1999 until 2007 I edited and wrote for "Tune In" a newsletter for the volunteers of our local public radio stations. I also wrote a column (Notes From the Motherboard ®) for the local Macintosh user group which has disbanded.

One of my hobbies is creating web pages. I’ve got my own web page www.harryjb.us and I created the web site for the reunion. I also created a web site for a friend of mine who is a freelance writer and a web site for a local theater group Shoestring Productions.

In additon, I am a volunteer for Kentucky Homefront, a not-for profit radio show hosted by singer/songwriter John Gage. I produce the programs for the monthly shows and I maintain their web site www.kentuckyhomefront.org. The show is broadcast Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. on WFPK 91.9 (one of Louisville’s three local public radio stations).

Sherry and I have a tandem recumbent bicycle and, weather permitting, we ride once or twice a week.

In 2004, I began studying Spanish and since that time Sherry and I have traveled to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica where we lived with a local family and attended Spanish School, Peru where we visited and lived with a family and only one person in the family spoke English, and Chile where we lived with a family and attended Spanish school. In 2009 we went to Spain, lived with a family in Malaga for two weeks while attending a language school. In 2010 I began taking Spanish classes, tuition free, at the University of Louisville in a tuition remission program for seniors 65 & older. I also write for the University of Louisville student Newspaper, The Louisville Cardinal.

My wife and I are truly fortunate in our life together. We have a wonderful, son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, travel extensively, and are having an all around great life.
